The main idea here is that the Entered Apprentice degree starts a lifelong journey of self-improvement. It uses the symbol of beginning as a rough ashlar that must be hewn and shaped through study, reflection, and upright conduct. This reflects ongoing progress: from ignorance toward knowledge and virtue, a path that continues through the later degrees as one grows in understanding and character. It also carries a clear moral dimension—duty to God, to others, and to oneself, aligned with truth and service. The other notions don’t fit because this Masonry experience is not a one-time event, it doesn’t terminate personal growth, and it does include moral aspects central to the discipline.
